Automatic blank weighting machine
This machine was used in the Melbourne Mint to check the weight of gold blanks. Blanks are metal discs that are struck to become coins.
Underweight blanks were ejected from the left-hande chute and sent for re-melting.
Blanks of the correct weight were sent for coining.
Overweight blanks were ejected from the right-hand chute, filed to remove metal from the edge and re-weighted.
